SILVER DOLLAR BALL
The Silver Dollar Ball Committee has been staying busy this summer raising money for the American Cancer Society (ACS) and making plans for the 10th Annual Silver Dollar Ball at the Jim West Mansion on April 2, 2005. Several successful fundraisers have already taken place this summer including a Food and Wine Tasting at The Grille in Clear Lake and a Blues Brotherâs Casino Night at the Nassau Bay Hilton Hotel.
American Cancer Society supporters gathered at The Grille, July 29th, to enjoy a Wine and Food tasting in memory of Brooke Hawes, who was two and a half years old when she was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma, an aggressive cancer affecting mostly young children. Brooke immediately started a long process of chemotherapy, but when Brooke was 4 years old, a final attempt to eliminate the cancer with radiation failed. Brooke died on New Yearâs Eve 1999. Through it all Brooke remained a strong, loving, creative and beautiful little girl who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Money raised from the Wine & Food Tasting is being used to help other children who are battling cancer through the American Cancer Society's Camp Discovery.
Supporters rallied again at the Hilton Hotel for a Blues Brother's Casino night on August 21st generously sponsored by the Hilton Hotel. The fun started at 7:30 p.m. with Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, a Silent Auction, Blues Brother's look-alike Contest, Hors d'Oeuvres, and a Cash Bar. The band, Primal Funk played their horns with "rubber biscuits," while the crowd rolled their dice, placed their bets, and shook it down to the ground.
The Silver Dollar Ball is a yearly event held in the Clear Lake/Bay Area that raises funds to directly benefit the American Cancer Society. In turn, the ACS provides assistance for cancer patients and their families, preventive research, and community education programs. If you would like to support the 10th Annual Silver Dollar Ball "Celebration" by becoming a volunteer or contributor, visit www.SilverDollarBall.com or contact Pat Partridge, 10th Annual Silver Dollar Ball Chairman at 832-221-8406 or Kathryn Noser, ACS Houston Metro Assistant Development Director at 713-706-5664.
